The Hrd Racing Jr Comp/Super Pro Dragster uses a four cylinder Yamaha RX1 1000cc snowmobile motor. The decision to use the Yamaha motor was an easy one. It has no built in transmission and as a result, the HRD Racing Powerbloc Clutch System fits and works exceptionally well. With the carburetors facing forward and the exhaust facing to the rear of the car, the result is a very clean looking application. The motor also has Yamaha's proven technology in five valves per cylinder, dual overhead cams, a dry sump, 37mm constant velocity carburetors (designed for a wide range of altitudes for less re-jetting), an integrated electric starter and the ability to turn 11,200 rpm all day long. These features result in a motor that, bone stock, is a reliable race motor. For the Jr Comp class, restrictor plates are installed to stay below the required 1/8 mile 6.90 ET limit. When running the Super Pro class, just pop off the restrictors, adjust the gearing and clutch settings and hang on for a 1/4 mile thrill ride. All this on premium pump gasoline. Note: Alcohol is legal, but in our opinion it washes down the cylinder walls which results in parts wearing out faster than they should.
The chassis is constructed of 4130 chrome alloy tubing and is built to SFI Spec 2.7A. The wheelbase is 150", the same as the maximum for the Jr Dragster, for the purpose of cutting down the costs of a new trailer purchase which may be required with a longer car (190" class limit). At 127 mph on the time tickets, the car handles exceptionally well.
Braking is performed by a set of Wilwood Calipers and a Wilwood Master Cylinder and pedal assembly.
The rear axle is splined aluminum and the rear wheels have splined centers. One large nut retains the wheels on the axle.

Straight pipes and/or a set of mufflers are available. Some tracks have a decibel limit. For those tracks we offer a system that utilizes two Yamaha 5GV600 mufflers which quiet the exhaust to 80 decibels at 50 feet.
The only instruments we use, as we believe this should be a "driver's" class, are an Autometer tach with memory, an exhaust pyrometer, and a water temp guage. HRD Racing has retained the driving services of Josh Lee and he controls the throttle during staging and launch. Josh also reads the temperature guages and watches the tach numbers during the run. The rules allow data recorders in the car, but at this time we are choosing not to use one as we would like to prove that this car can be run, in two classes, on a budget and still be successful. Once proved, we will install a data recorder so we can pass on detailed ionformation to our customers.
